Washington Post: Leonsis strikes Wizards deal
Written on March 26, 2010
After months of negotiations, Ted Leonsis and the estate of Abe Pollin have agreed on a price for Leonsis to buy the majority stake in the Washington Wizards and Verizon Center, The Washington Post reported Thursday afternoon, citing sources familiar with negotiations.
Leonsis already owns 44 percent of the team. He also owns the Washington Capitals and Washington Mystics.
Agreeing on a price is considered the biggest piece of negotiations, but reaching an agreement for Leonsis to take over the Wizards and Verizon Center also hinges on other factors, including operations of the arena until Leonsis takes control, the Post reported faxless cash advances.
The sale would also need approval by the majority of NBA owners.
Pollin died in November. Leonsis had first rights to buy the Wizards and Verizon Center as part of his long-standing business relationship with Pollin.
