U.S. markets open lower Tuesday

U.S. stock markets declined Tuesday as investors braced for a raft of earnings following a better than 4 percent advance Monday. The Dow was down about 60 points at 10 a.m., to 9,204.58. Nasdaq was down about 14 points to 1,775.47.
More than one quarter of the companies in the S&P 500 are scheduled to release earnings this week. Tuesday’s calendar includes releases from Bethesda-based Lockheed Martin Corp., and national bell weathers Apple Inc. and Yahoo! Inc.
European stock markets gained Tuesday faxless online payday advances. At 6:30 a.m. the FTSE 100 Index was up 41 points, or 1 percent, to 4323 on the London Stock Exchange. The Dax Index gained 51 points, or 1 percent, to 4886 on the Frankfort Stock Exchange.
Overnight, the Nikkei 225 added 301 points, or 3.3 percent, to 9306 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
