St. Louis Cardinals fans rank No. 10 among ‘best’
Written on August 6, 2010
Fans of the St. Louis Cardinals came in No. 10 in a new ranking by Forbes magazine of America’s Best Sports Fans.
The magazine touted St. Louis as a “great baseball town,” with fans in red packing the stand for every home game. The publication also said fans “had a hard time swallowing one-time legend Mark McGwire's admission of performance-enhancing drug use.”
Wishing, hoping and praying your team to a World Series victory after an 86-year dry spell makes you No. 1 among America’s Best Sports Fans, or so Forbes says of the Boston Red Sox faithful.
The Pittsburgh Steelers came in at No. 2. A string of Super Bowl wins in the ‘70s and a spread-out fan base thanks to the steel industry decline led to high attendance at away, as well as home, games.
The Red Wings, at No. 3, have a 19-year consecutive streak for making the playoffs.
To product the list, the publication looked at every team in the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL, measuring them by game attendance, merchandise sales and in-market popularity based on surveys.
