Mayo Clinic gets $43 million donation
Written on August 18, 2010
Mayo Clinic is getting $43 million from a deceased benefactor, with a portion of those proceeds going toward the development of a new education conference center on Mayo’s Phoenix campus.
The late Juanita Kious Waugh of Brookston, Ind., and her parents were patients of Mayo Clinic for more than 60 years. She died the day before her 88th birthday earlier this year.
Her gift will provide both operating and endowment funds to initiate and advance educational programs on Mayo’s three campuses in Jacksonville; Rochester, Minn.; and Phoenix/Scottsdale. A significant portion of her donation will be used as an endowment for scholarships in the Mayo Graduate School, and to name and endow the position of executive dean of education.
