Comcast enters Houston’s wireless data market
Written on May 6, 2010
Comcast Corp. launched its high-speed wireless data service in Houston this week, adding its name to the growing list of local competitors in the wireless data market.
In late March, Kirkland, Wash.-based Clearwire Communications LLC expanded into the Houston area with its mobile Internet service. Sprint launched its 4G wireless service in March as well.
Comcast’s “High-Speed 2go” offers customers that own portable computers access to Sprint and Clearwire’s 3G, or third-generation, and 4G, also known as fourth generation, data networks.
While Clearwire and Sprint also are selling 4G service in the Houston area, the primary difference is that Comcast is selling its new wireless service bundled with one or more of its Internet, phone and television products, according to Comcast spokesman Michael Bybee.
Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is based in Philadelphia.
