Black & Veatch reported record revenue of $3.2 billion in 2007, up 47 percent from $2.17 billion the prior year.

The Overland Park-based company said in a release Tuesday that employment increased 11.6 percent to 9,600, up from 8,600 in 2006.

The company now has about 3,800 employees in the Kansas City area, up from about 3,600 in 2006.

The company said its business expansion includes its energy, water, telecommunications, management consulting and federal services

operations, which, combined, helped yield earnings before taxes of $81 million in 2007, up 31 percent from 2006. The company said it entered 208 with a revenue backlog of about $3.7 billion.

"The success we experienced last year is continuing into 2008 as a result of our ability to bring expertise in delivering sustainable

infrastructure solutions for our clients," CEO Len Rodman said in the release paydayloan. "Research tells us that in the next 30 years, the world will need more than $40 trillion of infrastructure to satisfy its power and water needs and we are well positioned to continue delivering solutions to help meet this demand."

The company's water business posted a record $1.2 billion in 2007 revenue. Its energy business had revenue of more than $1.75 billion from various engineering, procurement and construction services.

Black & Veatch ranks No. 1 on the Kansas City Business Journal's list of area engineering firms.
